First place in the 2014 Milton Keynes Own Choice Contest section B
On the 30th November, Olney Brass were awarded first place in the B section of the 2014 Milton Keynes Own Choice Contest. The Milton Keynes contest has been revived recently after a period of just over ten years. The band were complemented by the adjudicators on their ability to play quietly and in tune during their performance of their chosen test piece, Dimensions by Philip Graham. Their conductor Guy Bennett was also praised for his direction. It is a great result for the band and a great start to contesting with the new conductor, having taken over the band in March and the Milton Keynes contest being the first one under the new direction.
Throughout December, we are visiting local schools with a Brass Road Show. Amongst the pieces played were Pharell Williams’ ‘Happy’ and ‘Do You Hear the People sing’ from Les Miserables. We also showed the children how brass instruments are played, which included a demonstration on a vacuum cleaner! In the new year, we are launching out new beginner band which rehearses before the main band on Tuesday evenings, in partnership with Ousedale School. As part of the development band, we are offering free brass lessons to groups of children. If you are interested in finding out more please contact the band directly at firstname.lastname@example.org
